Hollywood glamour was the theme of this year’s spring benefit hosted by the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk. The annual Red Carpet Ball was held at the Country Club of Darien, where 200 guests were treated like stars while dancing to new and classic movie soundtracks. In addition to time spent swaying and swinging to the beat, guests participated in silent and live auctions. The proceeds from the Red Carpet Ball will benefit the YWCA’s programs for women and children in lower Fairfield County, including Parent Awareness, a lecture series and support group for families in local communities, and New Directions, a workshop designed to provide women with the tools and coaching they need to find employment and become self-sufficient. The YWCA also offers Better Beginnings, the only free bilingual prenatal education program in lower Fairfield County.
On the committee for the Red Carpet Ball were members of the YWCA Newcomers Club and others who have been involved with the organization for years. Sara Parent, Amy Raskopf and Mary Kate Valentine served as cochairmen for the event. They were also on hand at the preparty reception, celebrated the night before, during which they unveiled this year’s signature drink for the ball, the Red Carpet Cosmo.
