Holiday Beer Picks

With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s that time of year again to get festive with your beer selection. Recently, we caught up with Bill Benison, manager and beer expert at Star Wines & Spirits in Stamford for his top picks this holiday season.

Christmas

For Christmas, I like the Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. It's a fresh hopped ale with crisp citrus flavors. One of the holiday variety packs is a good idea if you're having a crowd– there's something for everyone.

Hanukkah

For Hanukkah, I would go with the Bright Ale from Stamford's own Half Full Brewery. It's light, crisp and refreshing, perfect for the Festival of Lights.

New Year’s Eve

For New Years, I like to keep it local and hoppy. Two good choices are Half Full's Pursuit IPA, and if you want to push the big hops button, try the Two Roads Road 2 Ruin Double IPA from Stratford.

If you are looking for additional seasonal options, Bill recommends the Spaten Oktoberfest from Munich for the fall, the Anchor Steam Christmas beer, or the Sam Adams Old Feziwig for the winter.

“We're a small store, but we pride ourselves on our selection. We have old favorites that we stock all the time and we're always looking for new beers to rotate in.” –Bill Benison
