Hillary Anderson & Bernard Jerome McTernan IV

Although Hillie and Bernie were in the same graduating class at a very small college, they didn’t meet until they were thousands of miles from home, studying abroad in London. On their first evening in the new city, Bernie cooked dinner for his compatriots, despite the exhaustion of recent travel. This kind gesture piqued Hillie’s interest, and after helping Bernie clean the dishes, the two spent their semester exploring Europe together.

Several years later, as they were on their way through Central Park to a friends’ engagement party, Bernie took Hillie on a detour and asked her to marry him as they crossed over the Bow Bridge.

Father Tony Ciora officiated at the wedding ceremony, which took place at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Fairfield. A reception followed at the Inn at Longshore.

The bride is the daughter of Nancy and William Anderson of Westport. She graduated from Lauralton Hall before attending Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she earned her bachelor’s degrees in psychology and environmental studies. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in elementary and special education from Fordham University. She currently works at Avenues: The World School in New York City.

The groom is the son of Rosanne and Bernie McTernan of Needham, Massachusetts. He attended Needham High School before earning his bachelor’s degree in economics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He is currently an analyst for Pineview Capital in Greenwich.

Before returning to their home in Manhattan, the couple honeymooned in South Africa and Mozambique.
