A New Development

The Westport Weston Family Y officially announces a new Y facility, taking place at the Y’s Mahackeno Outdoor Center. A ceremony will be held announcing all details from 2 to 3 pm on Tuesday, February 5.

This landmark occasion will involve leaders from the Y’s volunteer governing boards and staff, major donors, public officials, representatives from local community groups, construction partners, Y members and other supporters. The public is also welcome.

The Y’s Mahackeno campus is located at 14 Sunny Lane, at Route 33/Wilton Road in Westport. Attendees are requested to park in the commuter lot adjacent to the northbound entrance to the Merritt Parkway at Exit 41. A shuttle bus will be used to take guests to the groundbreaking site.

Site preparation at Mahackeno is under way; the Y expects to receive a Building Permit from the Town in early February, which will allow for the start of construction of the first stage of the new Y, a 54,000 sq. ft. facility. The new Y is scheduled to open in November 2014. Details about the construction project and capital campaign to fund it may be found at www.westporty.org.

The Family Y has also scheduled an informational Q&A session about the construction project for Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 pm in the 2nd-floor Board Room of the Y’s downtown facility. This meeting is also open to the public, with a special invitation extended to nearly 100 homeowners neighboring the Y’s 32-acre Mahackeno campus.
