Alpine Cheese Tasting at Darien Cheese & Fine Foods

In celebration of Darien Cheese & Fine Food’s 47th year as one of the country’s original and oldest cheese shops, proprietors Ken and Tory Skovron will host an Alpine Cheese Tasting & Fall Celebration on Saturday, October 25th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Passionate owners for the last 28 years, the Skovrons will host the event at Darien Cheese & Fine Foods located at 25 Old Kings Highway North in the Goodwives Shopping Center.

“We are excited to celebrate with the community that has wholeheartedly supported us for the last 28 years. In honor of our anniversary, we have personally selected more than a dozen rarely offered cheeses from the Austrian, Bavaria, French and Swiss Alps. They are produced by using traditional Alpine cheese production methods which includes hand working the curds in copper kettles over open wood fires. We are really looking forward to celebrating with our dedicated clientele, the town of Darien and the surrounding neighborhoods,” explained Ken Skovron.

To complement the specially selected one-of-a-kind cheeses, the proprietors have carefully chosen a full range of delicious charcuterie including wursts, smoked and cured mountain hams, and sausages. The shop will also have all the appropriate condiments including cherished family favorite recipes of sauerkraut and cabbageto complement the meats. Seasonal beverages will also be served to properly wash down the incredible epicurean feast.

The Darien Cheese Shop was founded in 1967 by Jack Hearn and was part of a larger franchise that originated at the World Fair. At one time, the Cheese Shop had 75 different locations including Greenwich, New Canaan, Ridgefield and Westport. Since purchasing the store in 1986, the Skovrons have cultivated an extremely loyal and dedicated following in the Fairfield County area as a result of their valuable knowledge, helpful staff and wide selection of delicious cheeses and amazing fine foods from around the world.  To many customers, they are known as the pioneers in the fine food boutique store world – having been the first in the area to offer a distinctive and exclusive selection of imported fresh cheeses, locally sourced foods and beautiful artisanal pieces.
