Catherine McCool and Matthew Leach dated in high school, and although they went their separate ways before college, they remained friends and stayed in touch, even after they graduated college and lived in different cities—Matt in Manhattan and Catherine in Boston. Catherine eventually moved to New York City. About a year after her arrival, the two met for dinner. They spent hours talking and, in a short time, their relationship was rekindled.
A few years after they reconnected, the couple went on vacation to Nantucket, where Matt proposed after a long walk on the beach. He then surprised Catherine with an afternoon sailboat cruise and dinner with their parents.
Deacon Steven Pond and Reverend Ian Jeremiah officiated the wedding ceremony at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. A reception followed at the Shorehaven Golf Club.
The bride is a daughter of Aniela and Charles McCool of New Canaan. She attended Boston College, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing. She currently works at J.P. Morgan as vice president of asset management.
The groom is a son of Robin and Brian Leach, also of New Canaan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Colgate University. He currently works as vice president of fixed income trading at Barclays.
The newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii before returning to the East Coast and their home in New York City.
