Dress to Impress

CLEAN LINES
“I’m seeing really straightforward looks in fabrics like matte jersey, styles that are free of beadwork and more edgy. This is a look even younger girls are embracing. It’s sophisticated and makes a statement.”

VINTAGE SILHOUETTES
“A look that’s more vintage, often with gorgeous lace. Lace will continue to be a really popular look that appeals to a lot of demographics.”

DARING SLITS
“After a long hiatus, slits have made a comeback, and they are great if your legs are an asset. This look is huge in formalwear, but it’s also making an impact in the prom arena.”

PLUNGING NECKLINES
“Even if the neckline isn’t completely exposed, you still are seeing things that are cut out. Sometimes there’s a mesh inset for coverage, but the look is plunging.”

HEEL TO MATCH
While shoes aren’t necessarily being dyed to match formalwear, Lane notes there is a trend towards stepping out in colorful footwear. “It’s not matchy-match per se, but you are seeing people choosing shoes—often with a towering heel—in a complementary color to the dress they choose. Metallics are still important.”

FADE TO BLACK
“Dark colors, especially black and navy, even cobalt, are very strong. You are even seeing a lot of [this] in the looks a lot of teenagers are choosing for proms and dances.”

MAKE A STATEMENT
“Statement necklaces continue to be a very important accessory.
They are really great with the clean-lined looks that are so hot. And of course, they can also add a vintage vibe, too.”
