Elizabeth Brewster Gates & Kenneth John Aulet

Ken and Liz met during their first year of law school, where as fate would have it, the two were placed in all of the same classes. Ken earned high marks from Liz for his baby blue eyes and excellent sense of humor, which she couldn’t help but notice after each class. He always made a point to dash out and meet her at the door. A few years after graduation, Ken proposed to Liz on Christmas. The Reverend Richard Van Wely—who had baptized Liz twenty-eight years earlier—officiated at the ceremony at Wave Hill, a sprawling country garden overlooking the Hudson River in New York.

The bride, daughter of Charles and Catherine Gates of Greenwich, graduated from Horace Mann School, Columbia University and Columbia Law School. Liz is an attorney with Sidley Austin in New York.

The groom, son of William and Elizabeth Aulet of Belmont, Massachusetts, graduated from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School. Ken is an attorney with Hughes Hubbard in New York.

The newlyweds honeymooned in Japan before returning home to New York.
