Weston-based Stylist Amy Guzzi’s new lineof handmade Italian shirts, Lewellyn, is inspired by her family’s love of timeless luxury.
Samantha Yanks: You’ve shared that your grandfather, with humble beginnings, always wore a crisp shirt. Was that part of the inspiration behind Lewellyn?
Amy Guzzi: I’ve been in many closets and I felt like there was a lack in the quality of well-made closet staples. I wanted to make forever pieces that would never go out of style, that were made with the best material, perfectly tailored so when you wore them, you always felt your best.
SY: How many pieces are in the line and what are the colorways?
AG: So far, we have two silk shirts. An ivory one and a black one. More colors will be coming in the fall and cotton button-downs will be here very soon. They will come in white, blue and tan-striped.
SY: Tell us about the origins of the name of the brand.
AG: I’m a Leo and Lewellyn means “like a lion” in Latin. The lion symbolizes nobility, courage and strength — all things that I feel like wearing well-made clothes make you feel. If you wear something that makes you feel beautiful, it changes the whole outfit.
SY: As a stylist, you know which pieces your clients are craving. A classic shirt is clearly one of them! What else is in your essential lineup?
AG: A good basic white T-shirt, a good blazer; I love the structured gold button cardigans, black tailored pants and definitely button-downs.
SY: Do you see expanding your own brand beyond shirts?
AG: I’m hoping we will eventually! I would love to do well made T-shirts and maybe some pants, sticking with closet staples.
