Perennial Pleasure

While gardening in one’s own yard can be a rather solitary endeavor, membership in a local garden club — especially one that requires the maintenance of public gardens as one of its volunteer activities — can render gardening more of a “team sport.” And the Rowayton Gardeners, New Canaan Garden Club, Darien Community Association Garden Club, Garden Center of New Canaan and Garden Club of Darien could certainly be considered all-star teams that we should rise to our feet to cheer on. Why? Because volunteers from each of these groups put in hours of work that bring unexpected beauty to our towns, whether in the form of a planter of pansies outside a post office, a profusion of hydrangeas brightening a traffic triangle or a spectacular perennial garden gracing a historical home.
