Get clicking! This month SoundWaters is wrapping up its one-of-a-kind photo contest, “Long Island Sound: It Makes Me Happy.” It will showcase winners who best captured that nautical, summer feeling. The proceeds to enter the contest will directly benefit SoundWaters and its tremendous efforts to raise awareness and fund its conservation and educational initiatives throughout the year.
With its new Harbor Center, a research-and-education facility set to launch in Boccuzzi Park in 2022, SoundWaters will continue its twenty-five-year commitment to safeguarding our water and building eco-friendly relationships with the community at large.
Garvin Burke, Senior Art Director of Stamford magazine, a Moffly Media town publication, will serve as one of the panel judges for the contest, with winners announced at the end of September. “We love to see what other artists are creating—especially in our own backyard,” he says. Here’s what will be looking for when helping to select winners for Best in Show, Winner-Adult and Winner-Youth categories:
- An unexpected narrative or uncommon site/subject matter.
- Well-exposed photo with a command of depth of field.
- Creating a mood or evoking a feeling.
Stamford can also get in on the action by selecting a People’s Choice winner through the online voting poll. Best in Show and People’s Choice winners will receive two tickets on the SoundWaters Whale Watch and the Adult and Youth winners will receive two tickets on a public sail on the Schooner SoundWaters.
