The Summer Wind Came Rolling In

Just as Victor Chaves skates by the sand trap at the tenth hole at Westport’s Longshore Club Park, a dump truck carrying asphalt screeches in close behind him. The trucker, reluctant to pass the skater on this narrow, shared stretch of roadway, trails Chaves for a couple more holes till the road widens a bit and the truck rumbles by. Then, Chaves rounds the bend and a couple of golfers, apparently in pursuit of an errant ball, drive their cart toward Chaves. But there’s no ball in sight. Just Chaves gliding on his in-line skates as if on ice, getting in a workout on a beautiful afternoon.
