For John Shuck, it was a love affair that took root in an Indiana field when he was just twelve. He remembers heaving all his weight down on the kick-start, turning the handheld accelerator and hearing the cylinders explode in a muffled roar. The thrill of thunder at his fingertips, he revved the engine before slowly releasing the clutch with his other hand. Soon he found himself sailing across that earthen expanse on his father’s 1954 BMW 500cc motorcycle. It was a feeling of freedom like no other. The biking bug had bitten him, never to let go.
