Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams base their philosophy of successful décor on three simple components: comfort, style and value. We asked them to share easy ways to brighten up a room.

MIRROR
“We love the sparkle of furniture that incorporates mirrored surfaces, such as our Melrose bar cart and Fairbanks desk,” says Gold. “And we’ll often fill a wall with a trio of our large mirrors in upholstered frames.”

METALLICS
“Tables, storage and upholstery with silver or gold edges or hardware add light, as do accessories in a mix of metal finishes placed strategically around a space,” says Williams.

WHITE
“If you have slipcovered upholstery, change it out to white denim,” says Gold. “Or put a pale-hued rug underfoot. Consider white-lacquer furniture. We have pieces that have an unexpected touch: the insides of the drawers are painted red.”

LIGHT
“Accessorize with lamps that have great sculptural quality or a mix of materials,” says Williams. “Low-tech light producers can add interest, too. Think quartz or agate candleholders and clear or colored glass hurricanes.”
