Get ready to feel the wind rip through your hair as Fairfield Theatre Company welcomes back Mountainfilm on Tour on October 23. Mountainfilm is a nonprofit film festival designed to educate and inspire audiences about critical issues, all while having its extreme audience on the edge of their seats with pure adrenalin film shorts. The evening is generously underwritten by Wilton’s Outdoor Sports Center and will feature films of mind blowing adventure, mountaineering, cultures worth exploring, and environments worth preserving while having you walk across a rope 30,000 ft. up, metaphorically speaking of course!
Mountainfilm is a four-day film festival extravaganza held each year in Telluride, CO. and the gondola-linked town of Mountain Village, CO. For over thirty years, Mountainfilm has attracted filmmakers, photographers, conservationists, mountaineers and explorers from around the world to support the communal motto: “Celebrating Indomitable Spirit.”
Each year, a selection of films from the Festival are taken on the road to reach audiences who would not have an opportunity otherwise to experience the festival of its splendor and character.
This year FTC is so thrilled that the films will include the local premier of “Into Thick Air” featuring Fairfield’s own Mike Allen and his motley crew of high school friends. The short “Into Thick Air” chronicles a group of adventurers that strive to live up to the moniker that the legendary Yvon Chouinard once applied to himself and his brethren: Conquerors of the Useless.
Fans of the festival will be in for a treat as this year on hand we are delighted to have Henry Lysted, Director of Mountainfilm on Tour, who will moderate the film introductions and presentations as well as question and answer sessions after the films.
But that’s not all, as part of FTC’s commitment to partnering with the local community and providing arts access and education to underserved areas, a special “youth” screening of Mountainfilm on Tour will held from 4 p.m – 5:30 p.m. This screening, which is part of the Wakeman Smilow-Burroughs and Wakeman Stratfield afterschool programs, will feature the critically acclaimed documentary “Right to Play”. The film provides a powerful look at the global organization – Right to Play (RighttoPlay.org), founded by one of the world’s most accomplished winter Olympians and humanitarians – Johann Olav Koss. The organization uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children facing adversity.
So grab your friends and family and come down to Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne for a night of inspiring films that will have you calling out of work the next day and exploring the wonder which is this planet…Earth!
