To find decorating ideas, we’ll log onto the Internet, flip through magazines or tune into HGTV. Anna Maria Kinberg isn’t like the rest of us, though. This clairvoyant intuitive consults a spirit for inspiration and judging by her residential and commercial work (which includes the Roger Sherman Inn), her otherworldly source has good design instincts.
Kinberg is a New Canaan resident, medium and celebrity interior designer who made local headlines last year when she won a Telly Award for a script she cowrote for a reality television show. Kinberg is now pitching a new decorating-based show called “Divine Intervention Made Easy.” At the same time, she tours the country giving seminars on intuitive design and continues to grow her client base. “I meet new customers in unusual ways,” says Kinberg lightheartedly. At one party, she connected with a New Canaan homeowner who became intrigued by Kinberg when the clairvoyant knew a couple across the room was having a conversation about where her car was parked.
Although Kinberg has a playful sense of humor, her customers (including club owners in New York City) take her decorating advice seriously. If there’s one space in the home she’s asked to beautify most frequently, it’s the master bedroom. “That’s a big one,” she says. “It’s a place for romance and peace, not exercise equipment, computers and bookcases. After reading a space, I’ve had to tell more than one client if they want to get the loving relationship they crave, they have to stop hiding in those novels!”
